KL, Sandakan, Danum Valley

Day 1: Arrival Kuala Lumpur ( –/ –/ –)

Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur, we will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After checking in, the rest of the day is free at your own leisure. You can experience the heart of Kuala Lumpur and visit the many nearby attractions.

Day 2: Kuala Lumpur Heritage Walk (B/ –/ –)

Heritage plays a big part in shaping today’s bustling KL City and it makes perfect sense to restore and maintain these influential spots.
Gain an insight to some centuries-old colonial structures and get inspired by architectural designs. In the heavy traffic of Kuala Lumpur, the best way to discover the old part of the city is by train and on foot.
This tour covers Jamek Mosque, The Colonial Core, Central Market, Sin Sze Si Ya Temple, Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Little India, as well as Chinatown.
After lunch, you will proceed by train to Batu Caves. The caves are a Hindu Temple and the main attraction is the huge statue of an Hindu God at the entrance.
To enter the caves, there are 272 steps to climb. You will return to the Hotel in the afternoon.

Day 3: Kuala Lumpur / Sandakan (B/ –/ –)

Pick up from hotel and transfer to Kuala Lumpur International Airport for your departure flight to Sandakan.
Upon arrival in Sandakan, pick up and transfer to Sepilok Nature Resort for overnight stay.

Day 4: Sandakan / Sukau (B/L/D)

After breakfast, pick up and proceed to the famous Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. You will have the opportunity to watch the orangutans up close in their natural habitat. A boardwalk through the rainforest will take you to the feeding platform where the apes are fed milk and bananas.
After lunch, transfer to Sandakan jetty for 21/2 hours boat journey to the multi awards winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge along Sabah’s longest river, Kinabatangan with opportunity to view birds and wildlife in virgin mangrove, wetland and rainforest habitats. After check-in and afternoon refreshment, we take a river cruise using electric motor in search of some of the 10 primates species. Sukau is home to Borneo pygmy elephants, orang utans, proboscis monkeys and all eight species of hornbills in Borneo.
Return for solar heated hot shower, candle light dinner overlooking the riverbank followed by slide show and interpretation by naturalist guide. Overnight at Sukau Rainforest Lodge, in 2015 awarded by National Geographic as one of the “Unique Lodges of the World”.

Day 5: Sukau (B/L/D)

Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills and hot Sabah tea. A 0600hrs morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, proceed for an educational tour on the our own in-house Hornbill Boardwalk located behind the lodge with our in-house naturalist. In the afternoon, we proceed for another river cruise for more wildlife. Overnight at Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Day 6: Sukau / Lahad Datu (B/L/D)

After breakfast, overland transfer to Lahad Datu. After meet and greet at the registration area, we will depart for 70km overland journey on gravel road to Danum Valley. The area covers a sprawling 438 square kilometer undisturbed area of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah. Have your first introduction of the forest in the afternoon through “Nature Trails” and the 300m tree top “Canopy Walkway” for a close-up observation of the rainforest. Danum Valley is home to many species of Borneo’s unique lowland fauna such as the Clouded Leopards, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Pygmy Elephants and Orang Utans. After dinner, proceed for a night drive in an open-top vehicle in search of nocturnal animals. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 7: Lahad Datu (B/L/D)

Spend the whole day exploring the rainforest for more chances of spotting birds and mammals. Trek to the ancient Kadazandusun burial site aka “Coffin Cliff” before continue trekking to the “view point” for a bird’s eye view of the valley. Take your time to catch your breath and relax before descending the hill to the “Jacuzzi Pool” for a refreshing dip in rock pools. Return to the lodge for lunch. Another jungle trekking in the afternoon or you can opt to go ‘tubing’ down the Danum River. A night walk after dinner for more wildlife watching experience. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 8: Lahad Datu / Kota Kinabalu (B/ L/ –)

Depart Borneo Rainforest Lodge and transfer to Lahad Datu airport for the late afternoon flight to Kota Kinabalu. Arrive Kota Kinabalu, we will meet and transfer you to Jesselton Point Jetty. Upon arrival at Jesselton Point Jetty, proceed with the boat transfer to Bunga Raya Island Resort for overnight.

Day 9-10: Kota Kinabalu (B/ –/ –)

Back to mainland and transfer to Kota Kinabalu Airport for departure flight.

Tourism, Local Taxes & Conservation Fees

Tourism Tax: The Tourism and Culture Minister of Malaysia has announced that the Tourism Tax (TTX) in Malaysia will be collected from 1st September 2017. Foreign tourists will be charged a flat rate of MYR10.00 per room per night for all hotel classifications. The tax will be collected directly from the hotels (all types of accommodation).

Local Government Tax and Conservation Fee: Some areas are subject to local taxes and conservations fee. Examples of local government tax is for Penang and Langkawi. Conservation fees are normally paid if you are staying in National and Marine Parks. Examples can be TAR Marine Park – Kota Kinabalu, Perhentian Islands & Redang Island. The taxes/fees will be collected directly from the hotels (all types of accommodation) and/or operators.
